FAQ

Hydrofoil: Size does matter! Hydroplaner comes in four different for a reason. Other Hydrofoils come in a one size fits all configuration. By placing a stabilizer designed for a 150 HP motor on a 40 HP engine creates more drag on the smaller engine making it less efficient. Hydroplaner stabilizers are designed for specific engine groups to maximize speed and efficiency.

What size engine will the Hydroplaner fit on?

The Hydroplane is designed to fit on engines from 4 HP – 350 HP. There are 4 different models to provide the maximum performance to each engine group. The Model 435 fits on outboards fro 4 HP – 35 HP. The Model 4070 fits on engines from 40 HP – 70 HP.  The 7535 fits outboards and sterndrives 75 HP and up, including Johnson, Evinrude (except G2 Models), OMC Cobra, OMC King Cobra, Mercury, Mariner, Mercruiser, Yamaha, Yamaha I/O, Volvo SX, Honda, Nissan, Tohatsu, Suzuki and Force 1994 thru present.  Model 26095 is designed to fit on Volvo Penta sterndrives.

What engine makes will the Hydroplaner fit on.

The model 435 fits on Johnson, Evinrude, Mercury, Mariner and Yamaha outboards from 4 HP to 35 HP. The Model 4070 fits all motors 40 HP to 70 HP from Johnson, Evinrude, Mercury, Mariner and Yamaha. The 7535 fits Outboards and stern drives 75 HP and up, including Johnson, Evinrude (except G2 Models), OMC Cobra, OMC King Cobra, Mercury, Mariner, Mercruiser, Yamaha, Yamaha I/O, Volvo SX and Honda. Model 26095 fits Volvo Penta (with thru the cavitation plate exhaust) Volvo 260, 280, 290, 295 and Volvo Duo Prop w/Thru the cavitation plate exhaust.

Will the Hydroplaner reduce my top-end speed?

Due to the fact the Hydroplaner cuts through the water, testing with and without the Hydroplaner stabilizer demonstrated it to be one of the fastest hydrofoil stabilizers on the market. Due to increased stability, a boat’s regular top speed can sometimes be experienced depending the design of the boats hull. A very small reduction or no loss in top speed is usually the experienced.

Will the Hydroplaner save money on fuel?

Lower on-plane RPMs and faster planning will markedly reduce your fuel use. Because the Hydroplaner cuts planing time dramatically, your time to top end will be shorter. Lower on-plane speeds will further reduce your fuel usage when towing skiers and tubing equipment. In addition, it will also reduce fuel cost when trolling as its V shaped design allows the prop to maximize its efficiency at lower speeds.

What are the dimensions of the 4 different Hydroplaner models?

Model 435, Length 9.75”, Width 15.5” Model 4070, Length 13.75”, Width 17.25” Model 7535, Length 15.75”, Width 18.75” Model 26095, Length 16.0”, Width 24.0”

Will the Hydroplaner help reduce the porpoising action of my boat?

If porpoising is due to poor hull design or the improper height of your motor, the Hydroplaner stabilizer has been proven to significantly reduce porpoising action or completely eliminating it.

Will it help with prop cavitation?

Definitely!  Prop cavitation occurs when the propeller takes in air on turns reducing performance and over time can damage your motor and lower unit. The geometrical design of the Hydroplaner helps to contain water around the prop minimizing the effects of cavitation.

How does the Hydroplaner improve gas milage at when operating at slower speeds.

As the propeller turns it forces the water up and against the Hydroplaner stabilizer moving the boat forward with greater efficiency. Without the stabilizer there is less surface area under the cavitation plate for this principal to take place. Therefore, when trolling or using an auxiliary motor the Hydroplaner will provide up to 30% improved fuel efficiency.

What material is the Hydroplaner made of?

All models of the Hydroplaner hydrofoil are made of 304 Stainless Steel. All installation hardware is stainless steel as well.

Is there enough clearance to mount the Hydroplaner on dual outboards?”

Yes. The Hydroplaner was designed to fit on dual outboards eliminating the need for trim tabs.

What are my payment options?

We accept MasterCard, VISA, Cashiers’ Checks, Money Orders, and personal checks (must clear before shipment will be made).

What is the purpose of the opening in the center of the Stabilizer Plate?

This opening allows needed room for adjustment of the Torque tab that some motors are equipped with. Motors without these tabs will not be affected in any way from this opening.

What tools and hardware are required to install my Hydroplaner Stabilizers?

Installation is simple! All that is required is a drill, two C clamps, a 1/4” drill bit, a phillips screwdriver and a 7/16” wrench. All necessary hardware is included with every stabilizer purchase. Also, instructions and diagrams are supplied with your order. For more information, simply refer to our Instructions tab.

How do I determine which Hydroplaner Stabilizer will best suit My boating needs?

There are four different sizes to choose from based on the horsepower of your engine:
Model 435 for 4-35 HP engines
Model 4070 for 40-35 HP engines

Model 75350 for 75-350 HP engines

Model 26095 for Penta Stern Drives Consult the Products tab for specific details.

What is the purpose of the bent angle on your stabilizers?

The “bend” has proven to be the optimal design to minimize “porpoising” of all watercraft. It serves as a sort of “counter balance” when the bow tends to move up and down. It serves as another balancing component of the Hydroplaner Stabilizer, ensuring a more comfortable and smooth ride. It also adds to improve efficiency and fuel economy at trolling speeds.

What should I use to fill holes if I’m replacing a different Hydrofoil?

Marine-Tex White (Recommended) or J-B Weld should be used for filling non-compatible holes. Both products are generally available through your local marine dealer.

Can I reuse the enclosed nylon insert nuts if I have to remove the foil from the motor?

No. They are designed for locking during their first installation only.
